It is that time of year again: time to overeat, watch football, and catch up with family and friends. While this time of year is something many of us look forward to, others not so much. Here are some tips from us to make your Thanksgiving holiday weekend healthier, enjoyable, and pain-free:
- During your ride, make sure to take a break from driving and get out of your vehicle to stretch. Taking a few moments out will restore normal posture and prevent a recurrence of painful neck or low back conditions.
- When loading for the trip or with items from the grocery, organize your luggage, packages, and items into smaller loads.
- Adjust your car seat’s headrest, making sure that the top is no more than two inches below the top of the back of your head. Every passenger should be wearing a seatbelt. Each year, 20 million victims of auto accidents in America suffer from whiplash, easily prevented by adjusting the headrests.
- With three football games on television during Thanksgiving Day, many of us are spending time sitting or slouching on the couch or recliner. Try not to fall asleep in these positions as the joints positioned like this can irritate the nerves and blood vessels and cause muscle spasm.
