Chiropractic Care for Headaches and Migraines
Some estimates suggest 25% of the population has a headache or migraine right now! A frequent and overlooked cause of headaches and migraines is the malfunction of spinal bones in the neck and upper back.
When bones of the spine lose their normal position or motion, sensitive nerves and blood vessels to the head can be affected. When spinal nerves and related tissues are stretched or irritated they can produce throbbing headaches and migraines. Aspirin and medications may cover up these warning signs, but they do not correct the underlying cause.
If a thorough examination by Dr. Hruby reveals reduced range of motion, loss of normal spinal curves, or mechanical restrictions, chiropractic care is recommended. After a complete explanation, Dr. Hruby will recommend a care program designed for your unique spinal problem.
Many of Dr. Hruby’ s patients report headache relief. Others find that the correction of their problem takes longer because their spinal problem has existed undetected for many years. Every patient responds differently. Regardless of how you respond, enjoy the drug-free results millions have enjoyed by consulting a chiropractic doctor like Dr. Hruby.
Chiropractic Care for Whiplash
Do you have whiplash from a car or motorcycle accident? Injuries to the neck caused by the sudden movement of the head, forward, backward, or sideways, is referred to as “whiplash”. Whiplash is most commonly received from riding in a automobile that is struck from behind or that collides with another object. When the head is suddenly jerked back and forth beyond its normal limits, the muscles and ligaments supporting the spine and head can be overstretched or torn. The soft, pulpy discs between spinal bones can bulge, tear or rupture. Vertebrae can be forced out of their normal position, reducing range of motion. The spinal cord and nerve roots in the neck can become stretched and irritated. While the automobile may be only marginally damaged, the occupants can suffer considerable soft tissue injury.
The resulting instability of the spine and soft tissues can result in blurred vision, headaches, dizziness, pain in the shoulder, arms and hands, reduced ability to turn and bend, and even low back problems. As the body attempts to adapt, symptoms may not appear for weeks or even months later.
The chiropractic approach to these types of injuries is to use specific chiropractic adjustments to help return spinal function. After a thorough case history and examination, Dr. Hruby will recommend a series of visits to help restore proper motion and position of spinal bones. If caught early enough, inflammation can be reduced and scar tissue can often be minimized.
Consult with Dr. Hruby before enduring constant headaches, depending upon addictive pain medication, or submitting to surgery!
Chiropractic Care for Neck Pain
A popular response to neck pain is taking medication to cover up the problem (aspirin, analgesics, pain pills) or treating its symptoms (muscle relaxers, massage, hot packs). But constant neck pain is not caused by a lack of aspirin or medications. Dr. Hruby’s approach to neck pain is to locate its underlying cause. This begins with a complete case and thorough examination. Special attention is given to the structure and function of the spine, and its affect on the nervous system.
- Is the proper spinal curve present?
- Are the nerve openings between each pair of spinal bones free and clear?
- Is the head balanced?
- Are the shoulders level?
These and other considerations are used to create a plan of specific chiropractic treatments to help improve the motion and position of the spine. With improved structure and function, neck pain often diminishes or totally disappears without addictive drugs or harmful side effects! One study, published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that patients who received chiropractic care reported significant improvement in their neck function and a reduction in their neck pain whereas those taking pain-killers did not.
Is it hard to look over your shoulder? Is there a constant pulling or throbbing pain in your neck? Do you notice a “grinding” sound as you turn your head? Consult with Dr. Hruby before enduring constant neck pain.
Chiropractic Care for Carpal Tunnel
Problems in the neck can cause pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or a loss of strength in the hands. How may chiropractic care from Dr. Hruby help? The major nerve controlling the thumb, index, and parts of the middle, and ring finger is called the median nerve. From the tip of your fingers, it travels through the bones in your wrist, past your elbow, up your arm, through your shoulder and neck, and finally to your spinal cord. Problems can develop in one or more of these areas. The “carpal” tunnel is formed by bones in the wrist. The median nerve, tendons, and blood vessels pass through this opening. If one or more of the bones forming this tunnel should collapse, inflammation, nerve pressure, and painful symptoms in the wrist area can result. The median nerve connects to the spinal cord through openings between several bones in the lower neck. When these spinal bones lose their normal motion or position, they can cause problems in the fingers and wrist. After a thorough examination, Dr. Hruby will perform specific adjustments where needed to help normalize structure and reduce nerve irritation. When given time, conservative, chiropractic care has produced excellent results with carpal tunnel problems – without drugs or surgery.
Many of Dr. Hruby’ s patients report carpal tunnel relief without drugs or surgery. Every patient responds differently. Regardless of how you respond, enjoy the drug-free results millions have enjoyed by consulting a chiropractic doctor like Dr. Hruby.
Chiropractic Care for Children
Many adults see a chiropractor to improve their general health and to prevent pain, but did you know that chiropractic care is great for kids, too?
Dr. Rick Hruby sees many children in his Greenfield office, and the scientific literature backs up what we see every day: Chiropractic is safe and effective for keeping your kids healthy.
Studies show that chiropractic adjustments can help with ADHD, asthma, bedwetting, and colic. Chiropractic care can even boost the function of your kid’s immune system, helping to keep them happy and well.
A child’s spine will generally respond much faster than an adult’s spine to chiropractic adjustment, and will often require only a few adjustments to restore normal function. The actual number of adjustments will vary depending on many factors such as the length of time the problem has been present.
Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy
This period of rapid development, hormonal changes, the laxity of connective ligaments, and shifting of weight-bearing structures, may cause many pregnant women to experience lower back pain.
Besides helping to relieve the discomfort many expectant mothers experience, chiropractic care help normalize nervous system function. This is an important component of overall good health during pregnancy. The benefits of chiropractic care may also be noticed during delivery. Many chiropractic patients report that their deliveries were faster and more comfortable than deliveries previous to chiropractic care!
Modifications to the table or adjusting techniques are made during each stage of pregnancy. Pamper yourself and your baby with regular chiropractic checkups at Hruby Chiropractic Wellness. Women who give up smoking, eat healthy foods, and avoid alcohol during their pregnancies are to be congratulated. Those receiving prenatal chiropractic checkups, demonstrate even more concern for their still developing babies.
Chiropractic Care for Sciatica
Each of the two sciatic nerves is formed by four or five nerves branching off the spinal cord and running down the back of each leg. Sciatica is a severe pain in the leg caused from compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve.
The sciatic nerves are the largest and longest nerves of the body, reaching about the size of your thumb in diameter and running down the back of each leg. When these nerves are irritated or affected by the inflammation of nearby soft tissues, doctors refer to this as sciatica.
One of the most common causes of sciatic leg pain is the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. It can be accompanied by the bulging or herniation of the soft pulpy discs which separate each spinal bone. This can irritate or put pressure on the sciatic nerve roots as they leave the spinal cord. The result can be an intense pain shooting down either or both legs.
In the past, treatment has involved pain medications, muscle relaxers, physical therapy, and even surgery which is only about 60% successful. The chiropractic approach is to use carefully directed and controlled pressure to remove the interference from spinal structures. These chiropractic “adjustments” are very effective in reducing nerve irritation and its associated pain.
Sciatica, like other health problems that can be traced to the spine, often responds dramatically to the restoration of normal spinal function through chiropractic care. Pain is caused when the sciatic nerve roots are irritated, scraped, twisted, stretched or pinched as they exit the spine. Causes of the impairment may be chemical, physical or the emotional stress of everyday living. A full-blown sciatic flare-up can involved the entire sciatic nerve path resulting in symptoms of lower back pain, burning, cramping or numbness that radiates into the thighs, legs, ankles, feet and toes. Pain may also be limited to various points along the nerve such as the buttocks, knee are and calf.
Chiropractic Care for Stress
Just as a chain tends to break at its weakest link, we seem to exhibit stress and strain in the weakest areas of our bodies. For some, its back pain. For others, recurring headaches, upset stomach, or muscle stiffness. Still others respond with nervous twitches, allergic reactions, or sensitivities to chemicals. Regardless of your particular response, the function of your nervous system is involved.
Dr. Hruby’s approach to stress is to help normalize the function of your nervous system by removing interference caused by the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. Finding the “weak links” in your spine (the major communication pathway of your nervous system) and helping restore better function, can make a profound difference in your response to stress. It may not be possible to remove the stress from a busy life. However, with the help of your chiropractic doctor, you can respond better to the unique challenges you face.
Chiropractic Care for Shoulder, Arm, and Leg Pain
Shoulder, arm, and leg pain problems are common, and many issues with these areas can be linked to a group of nerves, called the brachial plexus. These nerves run from the lower neck through the upper shoulder area, and allow the shoulder, arm, and hand to move and feel.
While the pain may manifest itself in the arm or leg, it often originates in the spine. All of the innervation in the body’s extremities–your arms and legs–comes from the nerves that exit the cervical spine. When people irritate a nerve in the neck or low back, it often sends a signal down to the hand or leg. It continues to cause pain in the arms and legs until freed from its irritation.
Any nerve damage to the brachial plexus can cause pain, loss of mobility and loss of sensation to these areas, this is known as brachial plexopathy. This damage can be a result of a direct injury, stretching injury, birth trauma or other issues, such as inflammatory conditions.
Chiropractic Care for TMJ
At Hruby Chiropractic, we also treat TMJ. TMJ syndrome is the acute or chronic inflammation of the temporomandibular joint. The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. When this joint is injured or damaged, it can lead to a pain. You may be wondering how can chiropractic adjustments for TMJ help relieve my pain?
Adjustments to the jaw joint are done by hand when treating TMJ with chiropractic care. However, before we can treat the jawbone area, we need to clear out the subluxation of the cervical and thoracic spine first. We do this by correcting the misalignment between the spine and nervous system.
Using high-frequency, low-impact chiropractic adjustments, our patients with TMJ can see improvement in the distance they can open their jaws and a decrease in pain. By using these treatments, motion of the jaw joint, ear pain, jaw locking, headaches, and neck pain can be reduced. By treating the root cause of discomfort that comes with TMJ, Hruby Chiropractic can help reduce symptoms, which makes for a happier and less painful life for our patient.
